The normie kabuki dance.
DeSantis is down here banning books and African American Studies - during Black History Month. And YOU would vote for him over Biden? Have you thought this through?
Have fun kissing Paul's ass, And buy a few copies of his book...just to show you are still a Republican in good standing. (there is still daylight between you and Hugh, right?)
I am a true Independent. I used to have respect for Hogan and Sununu. That respect is completely lost now. Sarah has it right when she talks about tribalism. Shame on all of them.
We're in such a fragile time on our democracy and I cannot vote for anyone who discounts the coup and backs tRump. Love to you guys. Linda

The Republican Party as I have known it is dying or maybe ts already dead . I Its like the liner going down in the ocean . . Normie Republicans are too afraid to get into the lifeboats , they are hoping a rescue boat is coming . Or that this new-ish captain , Trump ,can pilot the thing to safer waters. But they forgot Trump is a damaged person as well as poorly educated ad incapable of logical thought .
How did so many people of such weak character make it up the ladder of political power? Or has it always been so but this moment is historically unique?
Spot on, as usual. The GOP is displaying all of the courage of the Vichy French puppets. Their footnotes in our history will not be favorable.
For all the idiot GOP politicians running around like moronic extras in The Crucible complaining about drag queens, any kid who wants to watch Ru Paul's Drag Race can do so. On MTV. On basic cable. Right now.
I just watched The Next Level where JVL, Sarah and Tim talked about Larry Hogan and Chris Sununu being Never Trump/Well Maybe Trumpers. I can't figure out what they think they gain by staking out a principled Never Trump position only to walk it back. It sure doesn't gain them any support among the MAGA faithful, but it's probably going to cost them credibility and thus support among the relatively normal crowd.
Hogan and Sununu end up looking like all the spineless republican 'normies' who caved in to Trump. At this point, Liz Cheney seems to be living on an island all by herself.
Okay, now I've heard everything! Dear Marjorie is moaning/bitching on an interview that being in Congress has cost her tons of money, doesn't pay enough, and is taking all of her time. Thanks, MAGAs, these are the people you think will do anything for you? D's - yet another election ad for you.
I felt like I was in the room with JVL, Tim and Sarah when they were discussing Sununu and Hogan. I want to climb on a table and shout, "look it's either YES or NO" it's either RIGHT or WRONG. No more of this "I'll go with my party's nominee" bullcrap. OMG makes you crazy, no??
No way would I vote for a Republican who can’t say that they’l categorically NOT support Trump (never ever) or any other Extreme Right MAGA such as DeSantis and the like. And I thought Hogan may be a possibility. Well, I’ve learned yet again that there are no good Republicans. They will all sell their souls. Or maybe it seems they’re just not moderates with principles. And Sununu? Yes, HE is a joke. Bottom line, you really can’t believe any of them - even when they say sensible things. They always then go down the hole to satisfy their MAGAt peers and constituents. Hogan destroyed his own honor, decency, integrity and patriotism by agreeing to support Trump, an Insurrectionist dictator. And that was the weakest backtstep I’ve ever heard.
Can’t stand Trump, but at least he was honest about having to know who before giving support.
Can we once and for all just say “ fuck these people” ? I mean it… each and everyone of them. The Republican Party has turned into a bunch of flies hovering around one big heaping pile of dog turds.
It really doesn’t matter how many of them want to pretend they are the normies… neither does it mean anything to pretend there are some as well. It doesn’t matter… landing on that turd means they still stink like shit as much as the ones that Wallow in it.
Apologies for the rant and the swearing. I’ll go back to reading everyone’s well thought out comments. I appreciate everyone of you..
RE: Spineless Pols
I am old enough to remember when the halls of Congress when a larger percentage of its members were smart, witty, and passionate (without anger) about their roles.
When coming of age in NYC, names from the Midwest were known to we neophyte political enthusiasts: Charlie Halleck (R-IN) was the Minority Leader, not unexpectedly a strong opponent of the liberal social proposals of Democratic Presidents John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson.
Yet, he supported the Vietnam War (as did most pols), but voted in favor of the Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1960, 1964, and 1968, as well as the 24th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution (right for all citizens to vote in federal elections) and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
Along with Senator Everett Dirksen (R-IL), he was the face of the Republican Party in most of the 1960s, and both these men were important consciences of the Republican Party.
One the other side of the aisle was Gene McCarthy (R-MN) and Bobby Kennedy, who had no issue in standing up to their party's president, Lyndon Johnson, regarding the VN War. Many other Dems were vocal in their opposition to the war.
While coalitions had to be cobbled together to pass legislation, there was not a lock-step with in the parties. The Republicans were saddled with the Northeast "Liberal" Republicans, like Prescott Bush (R-CT), father and grandfather of two conservatives presidents.
The Dems had the racist Southern Dems, who readily flowed to the racist calling of Lee Atwater & Roger Stone to the conservative Nixon/Reagan philosophy of the 1970s/1980s.
We are now saddled with witless incompetents who are skeezing for the camera with no concept of the reason for the House of Representatives even exists.
I am glad that I am 72 years old and will die within the next 20 years...Even the Roman Empire expired at the hands of the battle hardened hordes from Germania...the U.S. will do it from within.
Republicans continue to rally around conservatives who lost their elections.
This is why I dropped my subscription to WAPO. Lake, Masters, Oz, Laxalt. Are no more conservatives than t**** is. Do not dignify these illiberal christian nationalist, effn loonies with a respected term. And BTW whoever is on that ticket with the R next to their name republicans are going to vote for them, rank and file republicans. That is how we got t**** in 2016, what saved us in 2020 was a larger turnout and the independents.
The wishy-washy response from Larry Hogan is not surprising. He won the governorship overwhelmingly in MD for 2 terms in a State that’s Dems 2:1. But somewhere in his second term, Republicans in MD got a lot more radicalized. The candidate he supported in the MD gubernatorial race, Kelly Schulz, a conservative but supposedly not MAGA Republican, was soundly defeated in the primary by a MAGA candidate. And that Republican candidate, Dan Cox, who was also endorsed by Trump, was soundly defeated by Democrat, Wes Moore.
I guess if Hogan ran for President he wouldn’t feel confident that he would get enough Dem votes to win. So he has to look to MAGAs. It’s the dilemma of the Republican Party. I guess it also shows that even supposed Republican “moderates” are not really moderate, or they can’t be to have a chance of winning at this time. And, of course, Hogan has been labeled a “RINO” and has no chance of winning the Republican nomination.
2024 will be the bell weather moment. Right now Republicans are doubling down on assuring minority rule by weakening democratic institutions through the State Parties. This is heavily funded by oligarchical and corporate groups who hope to ultimately have full rule of the US for their own purposes. Legislators are targeted by and often
Working in cahoots with these groups.
I hope the Bulwark and other groups continue give us the platforms to keep speaking out.
We could spend all day listing the cowardice of "normie" GOP members, but if we just stick to today's news, can we add Mike Pompeo who actually just said in an interview that while Jan 6 was tragic, at least we had a peaceful transition of power. A peaceful transition of power.
If they weren't there already, add Hogan, Sununu and Pompeo to the list of people who have demonstrated their utter unfitness for office.
