Plus: Let them fight
the book banning will become burning soon. scary
Happy to see this Comments page start. The Dispatch is starting to sound too much like National Review.
I mean, she does attract followers with scoobie snacks of bu@#$SI. I thought her insanity was worrisome. However, the first part of the story has me deeply bothered like the first day Orange God King was elected. My city remains heavily segregated by neighborhood. You could draw a line down it using one street as a demarcation line. Does the obvious reality of this reality-based information cause white guilt? My daughter is mixed race. Am I to be worried that she would look at her father in disappointment because she learned about "Bull" Connor? NO! ZERO! Would her left arm feel guilty of her right arm? It is important that American culture mixed with all its races understands, visualizes, discusses its missteps. How do you claim success over bigotry or injustice, like Steenman wants to do, without learning about the origins of its struggle and the hearts of those that struggled? Instead of teaching her child that there were white people that fought and died to erase racism and slavery too. She basically condoned the behavior in her own heart by abolishing its conversation from her mind.
The beginning of the story of the book banning is important. It has arisen out of challenges to remove false history (such as the Civil War was about "state's rights") and to add anti-racism to the curriculum. In response, we have this right-wing shit storm about feelings. The end result? A stalemate which is exactly what the right wants. Universities may have become liberal bastions but that is certainly not true with most secondary education. In fact, do conservatives ever consider that Universities are as liberal as they are in part because students learn that much of the conservative bullshit they learn in high school was false or at least misleading? I know that helped develop my politics.
And to the blond, true American youth in the meme: The Hitler Youth wants their uniform back.
That MTG meme is something else. We now have congressional staff creating this stuff?
