Plus: Why China remains a bigger story than the MGM-Amazon or Warners-Discovery deals
By sheer coincidence I also watched The Maltese Falcon this week. Watching Bogart spin all the other characters like tops in every scene is sheer joy.
I’m halfway done with Woman in the Window. You’re correct that it’s not boring but the tropes, as in “here is a TV in her apartment that is literally showing you clips from the movies we’re slyly referencing” are laid on pretty thick.
I absolutely love The Maltese Falcon. A few years ago I was watching it, and my then 15-year-old son wandered in to watch the last 20 minutes of it. “Mom,” he asked, “ why are they talking so funny?” (meaning the acting style). That memory still cracks me up.
And I look forward to a day with fewer superhero movies and more thoughtful storytelling!
