Why I'm grateful to you.
Dear friend,
When I last wrote you all about Bulwark+ I started by acknowledging that a lot of people in the political biz and in my life don’t really understand what it is that we do here.
And I think that’s because The Bulwark is just different. It doesn’t meet the expectations and preconceived notions that people have about it.
There could be a lot of reasons for that, but in my view the big one is that we are not really in the same business as other political news and opinion sites. We are not taking another step on the career ladder, or angling for some particular type of influence or making disingenuous triple-bank shot arguments to avoid saying what we think.
We are a group of people, thrust together by circumstance, who actually give a shit about the country and are willing to sacrifice small-ball disagreements in order to say what we think is true about the real, existential threats that face us.
The nice thing is that the people who do get it…y’all… seem to *really* get it.
When we were in Los Angeles a few weeks ago for our live show a work acquaintance who came to the event and was blown away by the intensity, the passion, and the genuine good-heartedness of the attendees. It was a group with varied political views and backgrounds that had come together to be a part of a community that shared an overarching goal—preserving liberal democracy.
And when you think about it that’s pretty cool and rare. I read a lot of these email pitches from other groups and they often seem stale and forced because the relationship between the brand and the consumer isn’t real.
That’s not the case here. This is real. We are in this together. And that’s why The Bulwark has been the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever been a part of.
So I write today to tell you how grateful I am to all our readers and listeners and members for making this possible.
But also to ask you to consider going even further and signing up for Bulwark+. The member-only podcasts, the livestreams, events, new reporting, focus groups, and other exciting new plans we have coming are only possible because of our supporters.
Today, I’d like to invite you to try a Bulwark+ membership FREE for the next 30 days.
You know most of what we do here is free and that’s by design. The mission of The Bulwark is to amplify non-tribal voices and create a space in our national discourse for the politically homeless and people across the pro-democracy ideological spectrum who want to engage in good-faith dialogue. This work is made possible by the support of Bulwark+ members.
Try Bulwark+ for the next 30 days for FREE and if you find it’s not right for you, cancel and owe nothing. I hope you’ll decide we’re worth the investment. We’ve still got a lot of work to do. Let’s do it together and have some fun along the way too.
