The answer to Raskin’s question, which I’m certain he knows, is that presidents are impeached based on having committed “high crimes and misdemeanors”, which any given felony may be, depending on the number of representatives willing to vote in favor of it adjudging it so [given they have the wherewithal to do so because of the vagueness of the official criterion].

I think I have a philosophical worry.

When we’re talking about the “authoritarian abyss,” we’re failing as people of imagination. Same goes for “the end of democracy.”

In ceding the future imaginary to morons and weirdos we are in a real sense surrendering. Instead of making plans and preparing, we’re in effect blowing on electoral dice and praying. Prayer is good, but prayer is not a plan of action.

Growing a bit tired of using the term "team player". We shouldn’t let “team player” be a euphemism for someone who is unprincipled and lusts for power. A team player in it's truest sense is someone who not only chooses to do what is best for the team, of which cheating and lying are not a part, but ultimately acts in a way that is best for the overall game. You're not being a team player when power is the ultimate goal, then authoritarianism and corruption become its handmaidens not what is good for the overall game.

Trump won two golf tournaments? Reminds me of the announcement that Kim Jong Il's dad made 13 holes in one the first time he played golf.

"One of our two major political parties is fully under the control and at the service of an authoritarian demagogue. "

Excellent article up to that sentence. The fact is that the GOP VOTERS, not that spoiled brat who backs down the few times he's confronted (e.g. the Jeffrey Clark debacle), are the ones with the "iron grip" on the party and have turned it into a literal cult. If Trump's poll numbers were just 10% lower, even if only in swing states, the situation would be radically different. Why is that obvious fact always ignored in favor of the tired (& counterproductive) meme of Trump having the "iron grip"? Could it be that there's so much "sunlight" shining on it that it blinds people?

I think it was Chesterton who wrote, "loyalty is a redundant virtue"

I don’t care about who wins the Maryland Senate race, but as someone who once introduced a “Dirk” as “Jerk” I can see how “bugaboo” would go wildly wrong with no ill intent.

I'm late to the discussion, so I apologize if someone has made this point already.

Ms. McDaniel's explanation of why she promoted lies about the 2020 election is simply that she was paid to lie, so she lied as well as she could. The calm self-assurance with which she delivers her excuse suggest that she has no problem with lying in the past or in the future, as long as she is compensated adequately for doing so. She. and the NBC executives who arranged this, appear to have no comprehension that her open willingness to lie might in any way affect the credibility of anything she says in front of a camera.

I see no value in anything she has to say.

The post from trump is more sad than anything else. He definitely wants to be a dictator because this is precisely the kind of thing dictators would do

Nice work by Hannah Yoest providing the composite image of "St. Ronna".

It is generally not possible for one to change their innermost character, especially in denying the truth and reality for very many years that hurts society and very negatively affects the trust that millions of Americans seek to support in honesty, fairness and commitment from their political representatives to do what is best for them and rest of the nation.

My only hope in this Ronna McDaniel fiasco is that the NBC "News" brass have a clause in her contract, for which all NBC and MSNBC journalists and pundits are fully appraised, that she will be immediately fired after investigation for any all factually false and/or grossly erroneous statements or report ing news analysis she submits that are proven so by evidence.

The NBC/MSNBC hierarchy appear completely disconnected with the reality that MSNBC shows and their hosts and eminent analysts have gained an enviable reputation for exemplary competence, integrity and being insightful , that is completely nullifies by the perceived bigotry, deceitfulness and Donald Trump sycophancy clearly and publicly demonstrated by Ms. McDaniel.

Greed for significantly greater profitability from dubious increased viewership has has long been the Achilles heel of many USA corporations. This development demonstrates continuation of this flawed calculus.

Frankly, I believe NBC News knew exactly what they were doing in hiring Ronna. Just look at all the free publicity, there is no such thing as bad publicity these days, they are getting out of the fiasco of a hire.
